I Salute You Friday #2
Friday, May 14th, 2010A while ago I decided to point out some things I thought were pretty kickass. As you know, I’m obviously an expert in the field of acknowledging all that is kicksass- it’s true- so this made perfect sense.
But I haven’t done a very good job of pointing out the kickassness of the world of late. See, I sort of got promoted recently (Oh, I didn’t tell you? Well, I did!) and thusly have had limited time to blog these days (poo!). So, in lieu, of the post I wanted to write today (it was about gushy love stuff), I’ve simply gathered a few things I’m loving right now in honor of I Salute You Friday #2. Commence with the kickassery!
I love these jeans so much that I practically live in them right now. After FINALLY being properly fitted for jeans (sorry, Gap, but you guys didn’t really cut it), I bought this style in grey and have been kicking myself for not buying them in other colors too. Well, problem solved, these jeans are on sale for $39.90 (regular price $68-$69.50) online and I just ordered them in black (pictured) and the “clean air” wash. If you sign up on their site for their mailing list, they’ll instantly send you an email for free shipping on anything for a week.
Now, I realize that a butter dish is all kinds of “incidental” and serves to promote a condiment that modern cooking would just as soon eradicate…BUT, how freaking cute is this? I got mine in red from Anthropologie and I adore it. In fact, it’s been sitting on my kitchen table since I bought it in January. No, I haven’t used it. I just like to look at it.
I was first introduced to katiekutthroat’s cross stitching magic on the Regretsy site and I have to say, this gal is gifted. It’s like hearing Betty White call someone a cockblocker or something. It’s just…all kinds of wrong. And perfect for my sensibilities. Especially the beautifully crafted reference above to Whore Island. Fantastic.
So I have this old brown chair in my living room. It’s a hand-me-down from my parents and was in our family room when I was growing up. This chair is eponymously known in my family as “Old Brown” and is revered as a thing of legend (it started smoking once because the fireplace was nearby and apparently it got too hot). It obviously made it out okay, but the chair is old and is a dark bottomless shade of brown and…just no. It needs to goesky. The boyfriend already has this chair from Target, but it would look much better in my apartment. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind me taking it. Muwahahahahaha….
Has anyone actually tried this? I’m dying to pick it up from Sephora (Ulta doesn’t carry it) and set it to work on a dark spot I have on my upper right cheekbone just below my eye. It’s received really good reviews online and in magazines. Also, and this makes ALL the difference in the world, I like the packaging and that they used green on the tube. Best argument for a purchase ever.
According to the product description on the Village Cycle site, this bike (in Canary Yellow because the other color is grody) is a “spicy, low-cal treat.” I don’t know about that, but I do know that if I see another indie hoochie riding around the neighborhood on her colorfully cute vintage-esque cruiser, I’m going to throw rocks into her spokes. Also, she can go back to the aforementioned “Whore Island.” The end.
I almost didn’t post these shoes because a) I want them and b) they’re only available from Nordstrom for some inexplicable reason. It’s absurd! Search the WHOLE Internet; you won’t find them except on Nordstrom’s site. I’ve decided that they’re the perfect summer wedge with tasteful but fierce! grommet detailing. I like them in olive, but so help me google, if the size 6 winds up sold out, I may never post another shoe again. You have been warned.
I ordered this daypack for my trip to Alaska (19 DAYS!). I figured I needed something other than Julianne or Varuca Maplethorpe (that’s what I call my Longchamp Le Pliage) when I’m hiking around glaciers and whale watching and mountain biking. Hence the daypack, which is probably more than I need but the color is great, the straps are comfortable, there’s ample storage, and it came with free shipping in a box that smelled like pine trees. All in all, delightful.
What are you loving right now?

First, I need to go try those jeans on, and take you with me so you can be brutally honest. They look comfy.
Second, that butter dish is adorable. LOVE. Does it come in blue?
Third, I REALLY want to try that Clinique product but it’s SO expensive. Ugh.
I’m loving 4.375% interest rates for our refinanced condo, our recently beautified garden in front of our building and not having to drive through ice for a while. Yeah, my loves are boring and simple.
