When Electronics Equal Romance

The countdown to the birthday has begun. Yesterday, GDF informed me that this will be my last Friday as a 28 year old. She’s a good friend. And as far as birthday plans go: check. No pubcrawls this year, but fun for all will still hopefully be had. And then last night, I got an early birthday present from the boyfriend. And it’s shiny and new and functional and…I’m typing on it right now. He got me a laptop. A freaking laptop!

I’ve mentioned my abacus before. I’m prone to joking that it is run by an overweight hamster who often is in a food coma. The old gal just doesn’t work- it’s seven years old after all! Still, trying to watch a video online or download a song on iTunes or even update this blog had gotten so bad that I’d simply give up in frustrating fits of pouting. There the brick would sit, collecting dust, wheezing away like it was going to combust.

Which is when he stepped in and problem solved. And oh has he ever! I was so surprised by his gift that I was speechless- I practically cried. “But it’s not romantic,” he said while he connected wires and typed code. The truth is, I think it’s incredibly romantic. It’s something I really needed and makes a world of difference. He cares enough to ensure I can more easily write- knows how much it makes me happy. And that’s just how it is being with him…he really listens and wants to know me; he’s thoughtful, supportive, and dedicated to making my life better for knowing him.

As tired as I was last night, I could barely tear myself away from this thing. In fact, I wanted to unplug this sleek, light-weight beauty and slip it under my pillow while I slept. Yeah, I don’t know why either except that it seemed appropriate.
