For the Grandkids, Someday

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Ticket in hand, I stood in the streets with some 60,000 people, passed through four security checks, and just made it in. There are few words to describe being there except to say it was emotional and I couldn’t help but be overwrought by its effect.

I made it home at 1:30 this morning, I’m bleary eyed, and the playback shows my video skills leave something to be desired, but it was worth it. Worth the wait, worth the crowds, worth being late to work this morning.

  1. I know I don’t know you really, but I couldn’t help but announce last night as I was watching the crowds at Grant Park that I knew someone who was there.

  2. Aw, you know me! And to your point, I think that was one of the nicest surprises about being there…all the texts and calls and emails I got from friends and family- and even an old boss I hadn’t spoken to in two years- who were thinking of me as they watched it on TV, wondering if I made it in the gates, if that was me they just saw, or if I was being safe (that one was Mom, of course).
