Share and Share Alike
Friday, July 27th, 2007So I was reading my Time Out Chicago the other day and came across something of particular note. Last January, Northwestern student YiRan Liu began the Take One/Leave One project, wherein strangers read the stories of others and can also anonymously share snippets of memories from their own lives.
The unique piece about this social project, which also makes it more participatory than a blog, is that it is able to transcend technological access, social class, and age demographic. The project got off the ground and continues to draw the interest of Chicagoans from all walks of life through the use of cleverly simple SASE prompting participation. Maybe you’ve seen one on a recent visit to Quimby’s Bookstore on North Ave. or at one of the several other locations from which they can be picked up and mailed.
Written in the hand of the immigrants, grandmothers, and postal workers who lived them, you can now read their memories and many more, and even share your own, online at leaveone.wordpress.com.

What a fascinating idea! I’m totally going to check it out. Thanks for the link!
