Word Up
Thursday, October 19th, 2006About a year ago, when I started this job, I decided to institute “Word of the Day” in the office. As an avid reader with tastes that range from Austen to Hemmingway to the Red Eye and US Weekly, there’s always an eclectic mix of vocabulary to be mined. Words like…
bumbershoot
telluride
vitriol
gank
prurient
charlatan
juke
pell mell
journeyman
cacophony
The word of the day today is etoile. Why? Because I’m dreaming of Paris these days (even though TomKat had to go and ruin it by making it a joke with their engagement).
In case you may be wondering, the administration of “Word of the Day” is very much like W’s presidency. I make a showing of democracy in accepting other people’s ideas, and then continue to draw from the jar until I find a word that I fancy.
Democracy at its most copacetic. Word.
